Felicia cares about the earth…

Felicia is committed to trying to leave a small footprint on this precious planet. Currently, Felicia composts all bar scraps, and most paper products —about 20 to 30 lbs per week. Yes, all of those limes that you don’t eat, your squeezed-out lemon wedges, the vodka-soaked cucumbers from the infusions, the fresh grated ginger-lime pulp that has been pressed through a sieve, the stray olives, and the occasional toothpick that sneaks in, all of these lovely items are either brought home to be added to the compost that nurtures Felicia’s garden, or picked up by Cayuga Compost. Today’s uneaten pizza crust = tomorrow’s homegrown mint in your mojito. In other green news, Felicia started purchasing 100% wind and hydro electricity for the lounge from NYSEG solutions in January of 2008.

We are a ReBusiness Partner with Tompkins County Solid Waste, who have helped us divert over 90% of our garbage to either compost or recycling.

Felicia rides her bicycle for the Aids Ride For Life….

Every fall, twenty-or-so renegade patrons and bartenders come together as Team Felicia and join a couple hundred other crazy people in the Aids Ride for Life, a grueling 100-mile bicycle ride around Cayuga Lake to raise money for the Southern Tier Aids Program (STAP). From 2005-2011. Team Felicia members raised close to $100,000! Felicia also successfully sought out corporate sponsorship from Stolichnaya vodka for two of those rides. Felicia received an award in 2006 from STAP for being an outstanding community partner.

Felicia beautifies the community…

Felicia participates in Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Community Beautification Project, a program that works to improve the visual and aesthetic appearance of our communities. Felicia has built flower boxes and benches, planted donated annuals and encouraging other businesses in downtown Ithaca to become involved in beautifying the neighborhoods.

Felicia supports local arts…
Felicia has developed special relationships with both the Kitchen Theatre and Hangar Theater, supporting them through publicity efforts at the lounge, food/liquor catering services and financial donations.

Felicia gives love to homeless animals…

At the prompting of Felicia’s bar dog, Eesah, Felicia sponsors a water station for the SPCA’s annual pet walk-a-thon and has donated a portion of all lounge sales to the SPCA on Eesah’s birthday. Felicia sells SPCA calendars, which attractively displayed Eesah as “Mr. January” in 2008.

Felicia funds team sports…

Felicia has sponsored multiple sports teams, including roller derby, ultimate frisbee, bowling and women’s softball.

Felicia swims for Hospicare…

Felicia organized a small team of women to swim across chilly Cayuga Lake two summers in a row for Women Swimmin’, a fundraiser for Hospicare of Tompkins County. Felicia also donated an item for a corresponding silent auction. In 2011, Women Swimmin’ raised $323,000 for Hospicare! Now that’s a tall glass of water!
